Perubahan Fonologi Kata Serapan Bahasa Arab dalam Barzanji Bugis Karya K.H. Abdul Karim Aly

Abstract

Barzanji Bugis by K.H. Abdul Karim Aly is a transliteration from Arabic into Bugis can trigger language contact and borrowing. The borrowing of Arabic words into Bugis can cause phonological changes. Thisistudy examines the phonological changesiof Arabic loanwords in the Bugis Barzanji book by K.H. Abdul Karim Aly using Crowley's theory. The purpose of this study is to identify the forms of phonological changes at the phonetic level found in the Bugis Barzanji book by K.H. Abdul Karim Aly. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. The results of this study indicate that there are phonological changes in Arabic loanwords in the Bugis Barzanji book by K.H. Abdul Karim Aly, as reviewed in accordance with Crowley's theory of sound change, as follows: a) lenition (weakening of sound), which consists of consonant reduction, apocope, and syncope; b) addition of sounds in the form of epenthesis and prosthesis; c) assimilation; d) dissimilation; and e) fusion. Sound changes not found in the Bugis Barzanji include metathesis, apology, separation, vowel splitting, and unusual sound changes. In this study, the researcher identified other sound change phenomena or forms not mentioned in Crowley's theory. These changes include apheresis and  paragoge. This study aims to provide insight into the phonological changes of Arabic when integrated into foreign languages, with a particular focus on the Bugis language as the subject of analysis. One contributing factor to these changes is the linguistic distance between the two languages, as they belong to different language families.
